About Us

Hello

Trufflebert South has been a proud grower of premium hazelnuts since 1983.  Our hazelnuts are dried, shelled, and then inspected by the Oregon Department of Agriculture. They  are placed into food grade plastic bags and sealed in hazelnut-only boxes after shelling is completed.  Finally, they are immediately stored in 24-hour refrigeration to maintain the taste, freshness and quality that has made Trufflebert Farm famous.  When we ship to you, the hazelnuts are removed from refrigeration sorted for quality a final time before shipment to our customers. If you place them into refrigeration upon receipt they will maintain their superb taste and freshness for at least one year. We recommend that you return them to room temperature and roast them for at least 15 minutes to release that wonderful hazelnut aroma and flavor. Thank you for being a customer.

Orchards

The first three orchards were planted in 1983 by our family.  We decided to grow only premium  hazelnuts, because of fuller flavor and increased size.  We haven't been disappointed, receiving many comments from customers about the unique flavor and texture of our hazelnuts.  Two additional orchards were planted in 1990 and today we have approximately 900 trees spread over 17 acres. Our farm is blessed with the most productive and reliable natural springs in  the Lorane Valley, which continues to provide water to the trees when rainfall is insufficient,  a rare occurrence in Oregon.

Carrying on the Tradition

Ted and Dorris purchased the land in 1982, and planted each seedling by hand with their son, Eric, in 1983.  Harvest has always been accomplished by family, friends. and when a larger harvest is expected, a few hired workers.  Now that the family has grown, everyone has a role in helping with the farm; from harvesting, fertilizing, managing inventory and finances to shipping, invoicing, marketing and social media.  It's truly a family affair and we wouldn't have it any other way!

Mission of Caring

We continue to be pesticide-free, and remain dedicated to producing the finest hazelnuts and distributing directly to chefs, high-end restaurants and other loyal customers.
